Betty and Eva is a short film that
was made in 1976 as part of Marc Thorpe's Dolphin Performance Project. This project was funded by a 1974 fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts and in cooperation with Marineland in St. Augustine, Florida.

For one year Marc Thorpe trained two young bottlenosed dolphins to perform two long sustained synchronous swimming patterns that he
calls behavioral sculpture because the process of shaping and forming
behavior is similiar to wood and stone carving wherein everything you
don't want is removed and what you do want emerges. A third performance is a dance.

  • I worked at Marineland from 1983 to 1994 and dove and trainned from 1985 - 88. Worked with Betty, she was my favorite dolphin.
