This was shot with a Panasonic DVX100B, using a special adapter for producing a relatively shallow depth of field. Not one of those really expensive whirly gig deals with the revolving opaque disc, fancy (or obtuse) name and GPS navigation- just a $50.00 adapter.
It was a cold spring day and raining.
The neighborhood birds and squirrels made excellent and willing subjects as I shot from the comfort of my living room, with a fire in the hearth.
Theirs is a formidable task just foraging enough to get food for the day.

Should anyone care to find out the details on this low cost, perfectly effective alternative to the cheese spread, high dollar versions you see blabbed about on the forums- drop me a line or respond here. I'd be VERY glad to share the info!

  • Thanks for your kind comments.

Do an eBay search on Tele & Wide Angle adapters (72mm thread on items) you'll find more than a 100 candidates.

I bought both tele & wide for a combined $100, to include shipping (USA).

The WA is a two section unit.

I simply unthread the outer element and use the base unit for my shallow DOF shots. Good lighting helps the results too.

The one that made these shots is a Tokina .5x WA adapter with "High Definition" written as part of the 'name'.

    Good luck!

  • Very nice Im tring mine dvx DOFas soon as it's quits snowing.

  • I Have a DVX100A. I have been looking for a DOF adapter for. I wish I could afford a nice rig but being a low-budget filmmaker I have been trying to sort out all those DIY adapters before I make a decision.

I am interested in what you used to get that look.

Great footage BTW..Any info would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
