This is Allie's initial activation of her bilateral cochlear implants. She passed her newborn hearing screening, but as she got older, we noticed her speech was not developing as quickly as her peers. We had her hearing tested just before she turned 3 were shocked to learn that she had profound hearing loss in one ear and severe to mild in the other ear. She was then aided in one ear and progressing in speech therapy for 9 months. On 10/01/09, she lost the rest of her hearing. We've gone thru every imaginable test including genetics and have no explanation as to the cause of her hearing loss. On 1/04/2010, Allie had a 7 hour surgery and everything went fantastic. Two days later, she was back to her normal self, wild as ever. Activation was 9 days later. The look on her face when she heard was priceless!!
We know God has great things in store for Allie and she will impact many lives. Jeremiah 29:11 "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plan to give you hope and a future." Thanks to everyone for all their prayers

  • I love your video. this is incredibly inspiring that miracles like this actually happen. I was wondering, who performed the implant for your daughter? hope the best for you and your family.

  • @lainehigg

Dr. Audie Woolley in Birmingham, AL. He did an incredible job.

  • It's been 3 weeks since Allie was activated. Her progress has been even better than expected. She responds to her name, and is beginning to say some words that she used to say before she lost her hearing. Her therapist are excited about the progress she is making. To God be the glory!

  • This is so heartening to see. I am adopting a deaf child who will be three in May. I can't wait to get her home so that we can start the CI process.

  • Haha how adorable !!!

  • Awesome, we have been praying for Allie!

  • What a beautiful reaction!!! My daughter was implanted at 4 years old and had a similar reaction.... it was so beautiful to see! Not afraid at all, but sooo curious as to what this new thing was! I only have 2 regrets... the first is only implanting one side and the second is that we had a local TV station do the story and never got the video :(. Adriana will be 10 next Monday, in 5th grade and mainstreamed! God bless Allie and your family! I just LOVE this video!
