Recorded December 30, 2006.

The Blue Mountains is a mountainous region in New South Wales, Australia, which borders Sydney's metropolitan area, beginning approximately 50 kilometres west of the city's centre. The area is generally considered to begin on the west side of the Nepean River and to extend westward as far as Coxs River. Consisting of a sandstone plateau, the area is dissected by gorges of up to 760 metres in depth, and has high points up to 1,190 metres above sea level. A large part of the Blue Mountains is incorporated in the Greater Blue Mountains Area World Heritage Site and its constituent seven national parks and a conservation reserve.

Included in this video is the Katoomba Scenic Railway, the steepest railway in the world according to the Guinness Book of Records. The cable railway line descends 415 metres through sandstone cliffs, via a rock tunnel with a maximum gradient of 52 degrees. Also, at this location is the Scenic Skyway, a glass-bottom aerial cable car that traverses an arm of the Jamison Valley, and the Scenic Flyway, the steepest aerial cable car in Australia. The video concludes at Echo Point and a view of the Three Sisters.

  • @thegreeensky I live in australia. The blue mountains reminds you of the great canyon with trees. Katoomba is the place to stay. Thats where you see the beauty of blue mountains.

  • ideal place !!!

  • ideal place.....

  • @faulcon1 thank God !

  • nice !

  • I live there and I haven't been to the skyway for years. Last time they had an old tin cable car and they used to stop half way across the valley and open the door asked if you wanted to get out. But no one volunteered to leave the car. It's hard to believe that the valley not so long ago had no trees due to the mining. From where the scenic railway now stops to the bottom of the valley was once completely bare. Not a tree in site.

  • hmmmm!! at 28: seconds it seems they may be called the blue mountains because windows are blue! BUT actually the blue haze over the mountains is caused by eucalyptus forests diffusing fragant oils into the air.. Sounds cool. I really wanna go. What made yall decide to take this trip in particular? Where did you book it at for a good rate??
