Obama City in Japan Celebrates

Japan's Obama City residents send congratulatory messages to Barack Obama.
They say it means good things for their town, Lets take a look:
STORY:
The people of this sleepy fishing town in western Japan
- with a population of nearly 33,000 - have long supported Barack Obama - just for
the namesake.
[Mayu Uemoto, Local Student]:
"He seems funny, I mean, his name. That's why I support him."
Hiroshi Miki says Obama's success will likely bring more
good fortune to his town.
[Hiroshi Miki, Local Public Servant]:
"As Mr. Obama becomes more famous and successful, Obama City
becomes famous and successful, too. We hope we can communicate more and help
each other down the road."
Since Obama City started to embrace the Democratic candidate for the
U.S. presidency, tourism has been on the rise here - especially an increasing
number of Americans.
A local Taxi driver say taxi use is up by 20 to 30 percent this year.
[Shiro Uemae, Obama City Taxi Driver]:
"I don't know much about Hillary, but we Obama City residents,
want to see Obama becoming president for sure."
That is also the wish shared by the Mayor who has exchanged a couple
of letters with Barack Obama over the past few years.
[Toshio Murakami, Obama City Mayor]:
"The fact that we are getting attention not only from across
Japan but from the world has given our citizens a sense of pride and
confidence, hopefully leading to our city's revitalization."
Some of the merchandise on sale in Obama City include Obama T-shirts
and Obama bean cakes, while a Barack Obama statue was also recently
unveiled.
