Just when you think that Florent Schmitt can't outdo himself with yet another "orientalist" musical spectacular ... he does just that! This one came along after Psaume XLVII ... then Salome ... then Oriane ... then Salammbo.
The "Antoine et Cleopatre" is his penultimate composition in this vein ... rich, opulent, chromatic ... it's almost too much to take in all six movements in one sitting. Bravo to conductor Jacques Mercier and his stellar orchestral forces!
