Gah! I am two steps away from finally getting out of the blasted mines when this bastard shows up.
Edged and piercing weapons are going to be your friends here. Piercing is more effective than edged though, and blunt weapons are just a complete no-no. GIVE HIM SOME HEAD! Err... I mean, AIM FOR THE HEAD! The head is easy to hit and takes the most damage. However, Mr. Ogre often employs a hit-n-run strategy that can make it difficult to get the head within range if you're using one-handed weapons. Therefore, long-range piercing spears and bows are ideal for this battle.
Mr. Ogres weakest elemental resistance is against Fire. So, you will want to take the Salamander Ruby (originally attached to the Quad Shield) and jam it into your weapon. Your weapon should become fire elemental unless it previously had a strong affinity in another element.
Just like previous bosses, Mr. Ogre has the ability to frequently block your chain attacks. The body appears to be the only part that wont block chains; however, the body is also the most fortified part, so chaining it isnt really worth the RISK increase. Attempting a single Heavy Shot on head attacks is okay.
This guy hits pretty hard and often with that axe of his. Degenerate and Prostasia will help reduce the damage you take. Even though... it might be a good idea to not use those spells if youre good at timing defense abilities, so you can return more damage with Reflect Damage.
This is the part of the description where I complain about the bastard criticaling me. But this time I am not going to complain, because I was expecting it! Its probably just my personal experience, but it seems this guy always manages to pull a critical hit out of his ass when his HP gets low. ALWAYS!!! Its got to be something in the games coding or something - Im not crazy! XD
You gotta love his death animation. He pretty much pisses himself and thinks, "Screw this crap! I dont wanna die!!!" XD
Weapon:
Eye Gouger (Iron Spear with Spiculum Pole)
STR: 16
Beast: 1
Affn: Fire 19
Type: Piercing: 4
Gem: Salamander Ruby
@Heintax Ogre Chain Evade: Head 7/8, Body 1/8, 3/4 elsewhere
The developers did not see fit to mention Chain Evade in a game that heavily relies on Chains
For this and other reasons I do not think you are crazy when you assert that the Ogre criticals more when his health is low. I have to think that not only is such code well hidden, but not many seem to even believe that it is there
I call such coding of a proliferation of unfortunate events when nearing success "Near Level Death Experience"

Just fought this asshole today. He landed a critical about 30% of all his attacks! still, as long as you keep your HP above 120 and use your defensive skills hes not too hard.
