  • It doesn't matter what year it is, as long as you get a script model. My 77 and 74 sounds 99% identical, the block model sounds a bit different and is also a great pedal.

  • I got it from Ebay. The company started making their line of pedals in 1974, the first script models with the bud box are from 74/75 and then they made their own boxes.

  • :) I was thinking about getting this pedal, but have you tried the distortion 3, If you have which do you prefer.

  • I have only heard the distortion 3 on demos, no stores where I live have it. I do have the distortion+ from 74, 77 and 82, they all sound different, the 82 is more fuzzy and strong while the older script models are more creamy and soft. The difference is not very big between them. If you can find a script model then I think you should go for it, they are one of the best distortion pedals in my opinion. I also have never heard in RL the GT-OD pedal, probably worth a try.

  • I have just tried that, both channels linked and at volume 10. There are many settings with the MXR that will not give any feedback at all and work great and quiet, no extra noise when the pedal is on, unless you put too much volume, or too much distortion from the pedal. Either way after playing like this you will lose your hearing.

  • I hate that chord at the beginnig!!!

It seems like 60% of all gear demos start with it!!!

  • Used also by DAVE MURRAY (IRON MAIDEN) and RANDY RHOADS (OZZY).

Essential on the Heavy Metal History

  • @1234Sebster The current Dunlop one uses the same amp chip inside (the 80s block logos use a different one) but the new one has newer components inside, which makes for a sharper, hi-gain, tone compared to the smoothness of the original script one. I good comparison to this video would be one I just uploaded with my Distortion + and the Marshall Class 5 (which is a mini plexi)

  • That fx sounds better than any Boss distortion. And, better than any highgain solid state amp distortion I ever heard.

  • glenn and kk also used a treblebooster.jimmy page used an mxr in zeppelin.

and also used a treblebooster.the mxr sounds great! cool tone man!

  • Really nice pedal love the sound, mine looks just like this and im guessing it must be from the same era. Written inside on the curcuit board it says "hand built by guitar players" how cool is that?

  • @myway43

Oh yeah, those albums sound really great.

  • @GameJourney Nobody will ever forget Randy Rhoads.

  • Why is everyone forgetting about Randy Rhoads?!

  • now as far as sound difference, how much difference is there between this and the re-released block logos from the late 90s?

  • @VintagePsycho DO you know if the new distortion plus gets the same sound as the one ur using on the video ?
