This was touted in the local paper as being a "Popcorn Ball" since Marion is known for its history in agriculture, and has long been home to various popcorn manufacturers. In reality it was actually a hay bale feeder similar to the one linked below wrapped in lights, lowered from the boom of a firetruck. Strangely they didn't even block off the intersection where the festivities were occurring.

This was filmed by my brother using his Fuji digicam, and the lighting was tough to work with, so the quality isn't stellar, but it gets the point across.

Oh, and the audio/video are properly synched, the "ball" just didn't get all the way down before everyone had finished counting down and were half way home. :)
