My brother-in-law and his father... His father started adjusting the carb some. Now I know why Edelbrock says his carbs are ready to go straight out of the box... Not enough adjustments and backfire if you do try to make adjustments with what you have to work with... NO FATHERS WERE HARMED IN THE MAKING OF THIS VIDEO...

  • did you try ajusting your valves?? seems like they might be a little tight??

  • @kubute1 Not sure if they did that or not. I think that he ended up swapping it out for a Holley though... This was my brother-in-law's truck.

  • I have a question...do you know about how many turns..and which one is the air fuel mixture to get rid of the gasoline smell.

  • Nice vid.I have an edelbrock carb on my 74 chevy and it seems to be running rich at idle. I can smell it strong at the exhaust tip. I tired adjusting the two screws on the front. I screwd them all the way in clockwise and backed them off a full turn. Did that to both of them ans its still running rich. I have a edelbrock intake HEI dist and a mild pro cam. What can i do to lean it out more at idle?

  • Seems more like sticking valves than carb issues.

  • I admit you were blowing me away w/your views and if someone need's help with carb issues i want to help, i've had alot of them. It's all good...

  • @hpjunky70 No i'm not, i just misinterpreted this conversation. When you said edlebrock i thought you were blaming to problem on your manifold. I know it sounds stupid but thats what i thought..My apologies for being a dumb ass.

  • @Promoney22 I don't want to argue w/you either but your going against every hot rodder and engine builder that has ever tuned engines. If you have done the pepsi challenge with the two carb's you would know what i'm talkin about. If you talk to any guy that races and is serious about it they will tell you the best edelbrock won't have the throttle responce of a well tuned Holly. I think you just don't know the difference. Everyone worth a shit knows this...

  • @hpjunky70 Not looking to argue with you just don't agree. And just because i don't agree with doesn't mean i don't know what i'm talking about. If blaming your bog on the Edle helps you sleep at night, then more power to you. We don't have that problem with the cars we build.

  • Holleys are only good for racing applications.Holleys are a pita to tune and have to change every thing when swapping a part.

  • @hpjunky70 not sure of current hp but prior to rebuild the 350 had close to 500hp but that was with supercharger...truck will curriently burn rubber through 2nd 3rd and 4th gear without any problem.

  • @hpjunky70 my buddy loves his edelbrock now it bogged at first untill he got it just right he said his holley was more trouble then it was worth... and he is not running a stock 350 by any means. the 350 was built at first for a supercharger a friend of his had it built. long story short the bolt holding the crank pulley on snapped. and somehow he managed to get it from the guy cheap minus the supper charger. he rebuilt it with high compression rings etc

  • Anyone who has owned a edelbrock knows what i'm talkin about. I have a feeling you are just looking for an arguement. If you want to here a perfectly tuned edelbrock bogg. Listen to it on one of my builds. It falls on it's face and then comes alive. The big burnout i did has the Holly. It light's them up immediatly but gets double shitty gas milage.

  • @Promoney22 About what? All edlelbrocks fall on there face then come alive. Even if it's just for a second they do it.Some are worse than others but if you disagree you haven't tuned to many cabs. What makes Hollys so good is the have instant throttle response if their tuned correctly. The edelbrock i have now bogg's and it was tuned on a dyno. My holly was tuned by AED and it has incredible response. Once again if you disagree you just don't know what your talking about.

  • @hpjunky70 I disagree.

  • @ShortbutTall94 Hay bobcool. Buy a holly from AED. Tell them what you have and they will set them up so close you will be able to bolt it up and go and it will make a huge difference.

  • @Promoney22 All edelbrocks bog when you punch it. Then they take off like an old oldsmobile with a quadrajet.

  • @toyo7a They are reliable but they just don't perform that well but if you don't have a high performance engine and your not one of those people that's never satisfied you won't notice the difference. Their still good carbs i run both.

  • @toyo7a Don't EVER EVER buy an off road avenger carb holly carb. If you know what your doing with a holly you will have better throttle responce and you will have no problems off road. You need to vent the bowls and change the needle and seats to off road ones. Do this and you will be rockin. Althoough it can take some time to dial it in but it's worth it. I only use my edelbrock in the winter because it has a choke and it gets better gas mileage but my truck has flat spots with the edelbrock.

  • Was that 1 1/2 out on the screws and what did you do with the metering rods? That's what looked like it did the most good.

  • i prefer edelbrock for all around if you ever go four wheelin and dont want to buy the expensive holley offroad carb just buy an edelbrock the edelbrock responds better at steep angles and rough terrain we have had this experience on my 302 bronco and buddys 350 86 chevy ..... if your edelbock backfired was it adjusted properly air fuel ratio etc. ours give us no problems at all most damn reliable carb i have seen so far

  • i prefer edelbrock for all around if you ever go four wheelin and dont want to buy the expensive holley offroad carb just buy an edelbrock the edelbrock responds better at steep angles and rough terrain we have had this experience on my 302 bronco and buddys 350 86 chevy

  • @nothadnotbad That's just to get you in the ballpark, if you want to do it right adjust it with a vacuum gage

  • It sounded nice but the throttle response was lazy. I'd be willing to bet it bogged when you punch it.

  • Man, I own BOTH carbs and run them in the same car, NEITHIER give me issues, matter of fact, I have not had a backfire with edelbrock and same for holley. You want street performance get eithier, Want a nice cruiser with occasional full throtth runs... Get edelbrock. Want all out power on tap and still cruise around town... get holley.

  • @bobcool77 i dont know what to buy any more cause people have similar storys about holly and say dont buy holly

  • at least he's not leaving for several power valves like holley carbs do when they backfire... To each his own. Dont blame the carb, blame the tuning. Sometimes it's part of the job regardless
