Bournemouth 297 was one of the last trolleybuses built for the British market (in 1962). She has been in preservation since withdrawal, currently under the auspices of the Bournemouth Passenger Transport Association.
Due to attend a transport celebration in Usti-nad-Labem (Czech Republic) in 1999, she hit a low bridge in Luxembourg on the way and never made it. With the trolleybases mangled and the roof stoved in, she was stored for some years, before being completely overhauled and restored in 2007 at the Trolleybus Museum at Sandtoft in the UK.
This video shows the launch back into museum service at the Southern Weekend at the end of May.

  • Bournemouth is off its trolley

  • Nice museum with trolleybuses and great to hear how this particular one was repaired and returned to "service". In the "States" near Chicago is the Illinois Railroad Museum and they have around 16 trolleybuses from all around the U.S. Several of which are operable.

  • Yes - a lovely trolleybus!
