Snafu has an old poncho with holes in it. He sees these new guys and convinces one of them to trade b/c of bad chemicals that can make u sick ( so he says)
Throughout the episode its constantly is raining and the guy he traded with gets more and more hopeless which causes him to do something stupid that ends up getting Hamm killed. So Snafu feels responsible for what has happened!

The only reason Snafu and the other Veterans from the other pacific campains were giving the new recruits a hard time because they didnt want to become friends with them. I know it sounds harsh but they thought it was easier for them to cope with the death around them if they didnt get to know them. Because it is very hard to lose a close friend. An exaple is Ack Ack because that really harmed the men because they all got close to him.

how fucked up. a guy got killed cuz snafu fucked over the new guy. i was wondering why he wasn't as pissed as sledge was.

snafu tricked the guy into trading his raincoat which had tons of holes in it, when it was raining, and he had to cover the mortar rounds he swaped the coats and took the newer one, the rounds got wet, they went to get more and a guy died. it was partially snafus fault for taking advantage of the new guy, who didnt know he was putting them all in danger
