@lardman2228 By original, I mean the version in the movie. I looked for the one you mentioned though and assuming its the one with 9 cellos, that one is indeed fantastic.

@hitokiri679 I don't know which one you take to be the original sorry, but I have, many a time, listened to the performance where Mr. Hisaishi himself is playing the piano part and it has just the right amount of dynamic changes. I agree there's no tempo changes, but there is phrasing (very beautiful phrasing at that). In my opinion, a piece that has no contrast is not finished. For the piece to be developed enough, it needs to contrast. Who knows, maybe it's a bit of both.

@lardman2228 Have you heard the original? It's a fairly static background piece, and the mood matches the scene well (there are more expressive tunes elsewhere in the movie).
I understand your sentiment, but not every piece has to have a ton of tempo modulation to be musical - think of marches for example. I do wish they would have done more with dynamics. Again, I don't think it's because they were "concentrating on the notes", but that they simply didn't intend to use much contrast.

Hisaishi brought me here!

Nice work. This is a beautiful piece. I think it would be better if the harp got more attention. Can't notice it very much.
