Tom Moffitt, the head strength and conditioning coach for LSU Tigers football players, gives a how to on the back squat. The most important aspect of squatting is heavy squats. You got to calculate an attitude that you want to have before squatting. I tell our players all the time, especially squatting heavy, because if I'm not mentally or emotionally into it then it doesn't matter how much weight is on the bar, I'm not going to do well at it. So, first is the mental aspect of it, and then the next step that's very important is the set-up. We want our guys to have not a really wide grip, we feel like if I have a tghter closer grip then my upper body, my traps and my shoulders are going to have a better base to put the bar on. The next thing is when our guys take the wight off the rack, I only want them steping back two steps, one step with the right, and one with the left. Because, when training with heavy weights the closer you are to the rack, the safer that lift is going to be.""

  • Dude shut up ok

This coach has people come in and monsters come out

Lsu isn't number 1 right now for nothing

  • @powershotplayer man you can't be any more wrong. Majority of them are jerks with fitness knowledge. No pro backround whatsoever.

  • Man, some of you guys just don't get it. They aren't building Olympic lifters, they are building football players. They goal is totally different. You don't have to get your ass lower because that's not how you play football.

  • To deep my ass I think a college coach knows what he is doing

  • too deep

  • going too deep can really mess up your knees

  • @la198ja

800 at 160 = YA ok buddy lol.

  • @la198ja is the 800 pound squatter that only weighs 160 a powerlifter? if so is the lift raw? if it is not, what sort of suit is he wearing?

  • @la198ja I'd be very interested to see footage of 800 at 160. But at any rate, this guy goes completely ATG. His hamstrings literally touch his heels. Also, not to knock your athletes, but I'm going to guess you guys use low bar position, and go by a "parallel" rule of some sort (as you just mentioned). This guy uses high bar position and goes all the way down, so his numbers are slightly less than they would be if he did otherwise. Don't take my word for it, check him out, Pat Mendes.

  • @LayEmOut60 We train several lifters in the college age and level. Most of them squat 800+. One of them doing it at a body weight of 160 lbs. That is sad because that lifter must have great genetics and is not lifting to his maximum potential if he is squatting every day. Many of our squatters hold world records for their age and bodyweight and only lift at 80-95% twice a month. A 800 pound squat at 270 is not even 3xbodyweight. Does he even break parallel? Or is it a "half" squat.
