What would a geek do with a mazda RX8, an iphone and some spare time? Jon Oxer shows off his rx8 fitted out with an Alix-1 computer, an Arduino, and a web interface that can be accessed from an iPhone or iPod Touch. He can start, stop, lock, unlock and locate the car over the Internet from anywhere in the world. More details available at www.geekmyride.org

  • I want this video on my N72 unit.

  • Jon, can you come over and play at my house? I have cars that could use a good geek-ing. A new remote alone for my rx8 costs $250+ and this is SO much more. Mazda are you watching? Can we please get this functionality in the rx9????

  • Now people can hack your car;)

  • Absolue unnecessary waste of money is what this is.

  • houses where multiple people use the car, to check who has it and if it's being used by someone you dont want it be (eg no user currently paired, who has my car???). Second thing I'm not sure if it could be done, but how about a kill function which disables ignition (even with the key) to stop it being used if its stolen? Last thing, any way of connecting it to the windows to remotely open them to cool the car before you get in? :)

  • I know this is an old video and this may have already been done/you may not have the car anymore, but can I suggest a couple of things? First, how about have any devices you carry (such as mobile phone) auto pair up to the network when your close. You could then setup user's on the network and assign the MAC address of the device to an individual user. You could then use this info to display a section on the web app showing "Person(s) Currently in the car". This could be really useful for.......

  • melbourne!

  • @cosmin519 imagine its 50degrees outside, you can just turn on the engine and aircon and then step into the car rather then going to do it manualy and waiting

  • @MrWOW4u was probably given to him by the GeekMyRide people. And a microphone still has its presence in news reporting. It's a part of the business.

  • nice set up wish it was in mine lol
