Actually, Ska is taken from the latin word skatinius, meaning to kick ones feet wildly while pumping one's arms to fast paced music. It was coined by octavian in the 3rd century B.C, who noticed the phenomenon when he would play his bugle for the local squatter kids. Sadly, Ska was a victim of the Catholic Church in the 6th century A.D, when Pope Innocent II outlawed the music as it made people feel too damn good. 1300 years later it manifested in Jamaica.
