It's good to see the competitive spirit and sportsmanship with folks working out together, but there isn't much new here. I did these types of workouts in wrestling in JHS and HS, and similar in Boot Camp and the police academies.
I think most americans would be in better shape if they stopped eating so freaking much, and started doing squats, bench, deads and overhead presses, along the lines of powerlifting.
There's a lot of things that I like about this. Front squats that go into shoulder push presses are good for getting stronger. Rope climbing is fun. Hang cleans are cool. Dead lifts are very cool. Jumping rope is cool. Chin-ups are great. Running is obviously very good for your heart. What I don't like is that the people in the video seem to be TOO concerned about the how fast they do it, and as a result the movements are performed very sloppy.
i agree with bale. why pay $1K to get certified in doing something you can get for free? and it only takes one weekend? wtf? you are obviously paying for the name and name only. slap "crossfit" on your gym and your sloppy average joe will flock because crossfit is the cool, trendy thing to do now. some of the workouts are rough, but those style workouts i was doing in high school during wrestling practice. sprint-push ups-sprint-burpees-sprint-sit ups-sprint-wall sit-sprint...for 30 minutes.
What do you think would happen to the special forces units and mma fighters etc. if crossfit ceased to exist? They wouldn't even blink. They would continue to excel with or without crossfit just like they always have. They weren't at some unclimbable wall and needed crossfit to help them over. What would 99% of the real crossfit community (sorry not everyone can be special forces) do without it? Look for another quick fix or hopefully for once be fucking motivated on their own.
Drag it up a different way anyways you missed the point. If you stuck with the shit they taught you in high school p.e. (for free) you wouldn't be looking for programs like crossfit. You wouldn't be looking for a quick fix. You would still be in shape. I dislike how they constantly latch on to the military community (they just lost a $500,000 lawsuit by the way) and special forces units to using them as sales pitches. Do you honestly think the seals were unfit before crossfit came along?
@ScottMacFie brilliant! Did you crack that mystery all on your own, or did you get help. Cmon, be honest.
