The escapement of a mechanical watch. The baseplate of the movement had to be cut out to see the relevant parts. This was done by watchmaker Rainer Nienaber, Bünde, Germany (www.nienaber-uhren.de), who also provided the movement to me.

It was difficult to film this because the tapered palette stones are somewhat transparent and barely visible. I tried to optimise the contrast and colour balance settings, but still you have to look closely...

Filmed at 1000fps, playback at 10fps.
