Working with biologists Lynn Rogers, Ph.D., and Sue Mansfield, M.S., the Wildlife Research Institute (www.bearstudy.org) is conducting the longest (44 years) and most detailed study of black bear ecology and behavior ever done. Using den cams, telemetry, GPS, & direct observation, biologists are learning how black bears and people can better coexist. WRI scientists have senior-authored more peer-reviewed scientific articles on black bears than anyone. WRI's 44 years of data is the source of much of the scientific information used in textbooks, museums, and outlets such as National Geographic, Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, BBC, University of Minnesota, Smithsonian Institute, U.S. Forest Service, U.S. Geological Survey, and others. Donations will help create an endowment fund for bear research.
