Story of Peter the great, Tsar of Russia from 1682, starring Maximillian Schell as adult Peter. Although historically not very accurate, Its about his struggle with his sister Sophia and the Streltsy in his early life for the throne of Russia. This TV series shows Peter's efforts to 'westernize' Russia, and treason from his son.

Then I bought it on VHS but those tapes are close to dead now. Luckily I was able to record it from TV 2 years ago.

  • @purplelunacy You are so lucky... You don't know how lucky you are! Peter the Great happens to be one of the best Tsars in Russian history in my mind. I admire him because of what he made Russia into. He is so fascinating. Cool! thanks so much for sharing this!

They would have wanted to kill them all, but most of the Romanovs were smart enough to see this mess coming and had already fled by the time the Tsar was taken to Yekaterinburg. Nicholas II was incredibly incompetent and unfit for rule, he didn't listen to his advisors, didn't modernize his army or even fund them properly, and refused to see the writing on the wall until it was too late. His children had no role in politics, they didn't deserve to die for his mistakes.

  • @susumu07 ahhh good, I had thought that the Soviets had killed all members of the Romanov bloodline, to prevent any possible retaking of the country.

I always liked the Russian Imperial Family

  • @TheDeviantLord

Romanov's are still around. The main ones are descendants of Alexander III, so much more direct than just relative of Peter the Great's mother. The only ones that were killed were Nicholas II's immediate family and a few of his cousins. The rest of the Romanovs, for the most part, escaped. They weren't directly in line for the throne, but they're what's left now.

  • @purplelunacy Wait if thats true, then would that not make you a member of the Romanov dynasty? I Thought all of the members were dead?
