Kansas City: 300 pounds (136 kilograms) chimpanzee who was released from his chains was recaptured on Tuesday after a brief wander through a neighborhood in Kansas City, damaging a police vehicle. Police Capt. Rich Lockhart told The Kansas City Star was alerted police about noon on Tuesday of a primate in the wild a few miles (kilometers) of the Kansas City Zoo.
The police official said the monkey was actually a pet that had escaped, and added that efforts to shoot the animal with a tranquilizer dart failed.
The chimpanzee, named Sueko, was filmed pushing a trash can to the police car, climbing on the hood and hitting the passenger side window with his fist before running off. Sueko owner was finally able to convince the chimpanzee in a cage. Lockhart said the owner was cited for a dangerous animal within city limits. He now faces a $ 1,000 fine and 180 days in jail.
Chimps are apes, not monkeys.
