Brushes that I would say are needed for basic makeup application would be. A foundation brush (I use the mac 190), a powder brush, a blush brush, a flat head eyeshadow brush (can get on by Sonia Kashuk at target for about $5), a blending eyeshadow brush, and an angled eye liner brush/eyebrow brush (if you use brow powder to fill in your brows).

If you take care of your makeup brushes they will last you a life time. Clean brushes help to prevent the spread of bacteria and elimates the risk of localized infection.

NEVER under any circumstances blow on your makeup brush. That is just gross.

CLEANING YOUR MAKEUP BRUSHES:
Natural hair makeup brushes should be washed with warm soapy water, making sure not to immerse beyond the furrule (the metal portion) of the brush. It should be carefully rinsed. Remove excess water and reshape the brush. Lay flat to dry. If you wash them at night they will be dry by morning. I washes my brushes and had them available for use within four hours.

Synthetic brushes or any other brush that has been used for wet, creamy or oily products should be sanitized in the following manner. First remove any excess product with a tissue. Follow by applying an antibacterial soap, undiluted onto a tissue and wipe brush bristles through on a flat surface. This may need to be completed more than one time until all of the product has been removed. I use airbrush cleanser or Origins "Clean Energy" oil face wash to break down the makeup in the brush. End by carefully rinsing the brush, reshaping and laying it flat to dry.

If you are using brushes on other people brushes with White Bristles should be cleaned throughly, if the bristles do not go back white then you haven't completely cleaned your brush.

  • enjoyed watching your vid. great information on what brushes are used for what and even uses other than what the brush is 'supposed' to be used for. thanks also for the info on how to clean brushes. i actually have 3 sets of brushes, wash one set (whatever set i used that week), and rotate the other 2 sets. having multiple sets also works for me in case i'm lazy and don't want to wash them, i just move on to the next set. thanks again!
