  • I discovered Orwell while I worked at UEL in London. There is more to Orwell than 1984 or Animal Farm. If you REALLY want to appreciate Orwell, you must read the work he did as a journalist (it's in book form - "As I Please" - a column in the London Tribune in the 1940's). Also check out Down and Out in Paris and London and Road to Wiggan Pier.

  • the books are good but the essays are the real Orwell.

  • A breathtaking film.

  • Down and Out in Paris and London is still my favorite piece of work from Orwell. It has just about everything I could want.

  • <3 Alice n curious George's...idea unbox duh inner core! ~n agree 2 disagree on R.R/&or Bside radio =^-^= n Wicked fast~cars}:)

  • this is how we should all live, when we're forced to something inefficient or false we laugh at that method and create one that is the best in every possible way

  • An absolutely incredible film. It takes a serious deficiency in our culture - a lack of film and audio of the greatest 20th century author in the English language - and uses it to create a spectacular film version of his life. Not only does it capture him perfectly, it is an artistic triumph. Whoever came up with the idea is a genius and whoever was involved in production deserves our thanks and praise.

  • "A Hanging" was a great essay.

  • This actor does not convey Orwell's writing the way it's meant to be. When he talks about bed wetting and it's sinfulness, it's meant to be funny. Not that it's not interesting, but the true Orwellian style is removed as far as I'm concerned.

  • @uel786 Those are on my list after Brave New World and some others. I've read Nineteen Eighty-Four (spelled out in it's correct form purposefully, as to avoid the dumbing down and laziness of using the language), Animal Farm, Coming Up For Air (GREAT book), Keep the Aspidistra Flying, and a number of his essays. I'm on a mission to read every word Orwell ever wrote, but I cannot get a hold of his Complete Works set. :(
