how are these against the smaller cross bikes? there twice the weight, and twice the power, so dose that mean kills them in the straights but isn't as maneuverable? i want an dual purpose bike, but i really just want a motocross bike that i can ride on the street. how is this bike? should i even consider it?

This bike is good for many type of fire road and trails but if you want something closer to a motocross, you better to look for a bike like KTM 450 or 530 EXC or even a 690R. That really depend on what you want to do. If you ride mostly in small and technical trail and just a little bit on the road, a smaller bike is better. If you do lot of street riding and large trail on long trip, the HP2 can be a very good bike.

It's truly amazing you can hustle a big bike around like that, then hop on the freeway and ride home two states away. Well almost anyway LOL, it looks like a pretty well tweaked motorcycle. The GS is one of the best road bikes ever produced, for me the off-road is incidental, I have a smaller dirt bike for that. Just the fact it has the potential tickles me, you don't see many other bikes with such a capability. They handle sooo well it's amazing, mine's 20 years old and I still love it.

Go get yourself an XR650l for $3,500 (used) and run the crap out of it!! They don't even offer the hp2 anymore.
