A new year and a new railway. I made my first visit to the Dean Forest Railway whilst they were running their mince pie specials. Two trains ran from Lydney Jcn - Parkend and back then a last train ran from Lydney Jcn to Parkend then back as far as Norchard. The motive power for the day was BR(W) 5700 Class 0-6-0PT no.9681 and she gave some very thrashy performances throughout the day.

Shots included are:

- On board shots of the journey from Lydney Jnc to Norchard.
- 9681 powers up the straight just outside Whitecroft then shuts off for the approach to Parkend passing us at Oakenwood Crossing No.3
- 9681 is seen departing Parkend again passing Oakenwood Crossing No.3
- After that it seemed like it was the end of the days filming but, a little tip off from a friend of mine meant I could get one last shot. After the public services had finished 9681 was to work light engine down to St Mary's Halt where a train of ballast wagons would be waiting, she would then take them back to Norchard. So the last shot sees 9681 at Lydney Town Station seemingly slowing for the crossing but as soon as the crossing gates were shut to road traffic the driver opened her up and she powered straight through.

Filmed on a Panasonic HDC-HS60 HD Camcorder

  • Great video, superb conditions for videoing! Mr Phelps sure knows what the regulator is for, he always drives like this haha! Lucky to hear about the dogfish at the end, great way to end the video too. Well filmed. Thumbs up!

  • @JBTEvans cheers Josh =) Indeed he does, what a great sound. A nice little treat to end the day with the ballast train, especially when 9681 opened up =D
