The opening and closing from Matty's Funday Funnies. Sponsored by Mattel Toys, This series originally featured Casper cartoons and was seen on ABC-TV from 1959-1962.
I was just reading Bill Mumy's biography. He was the voice of Matty Mattel in this. Later he went on to be Will Robinson in Lost in Space and Lenier in Babylon 5
That's veteran actor/announcer Marvin Miller (who was just finishing his tenure as "Michael Anthony" on "THE MILLIONAIRE" at the time) as the show's announcer. Claude Kirchner was under contract as "the voice of Marx Toys", 'kid' {also hosting "MARX'S MAGIC MIDWAY" on NBC's 1962-'63 Saturday morning schedule}.
Very true. The Casper stories resonated with children. The idea of this little ghost wanting to make a friend would pull at the heart-strings of kids. We were the generation who would deal issues of social acceptance.
Of all the Harvey characters ,Casper was the only one that made it big time, every kid in 2009 knows who he is. That makes me feel good. My favorite was Hot Stuff the little devil , he mever made it into the tv cartoons. But i have a big collection of his comic books from the 1950's and 1960's. SWEET MEMORIES
And just as Paramount Cartoon Studios created the Harvey Jack-in-the-Box opening for the cartoons replacing their original Noveltoon Jack, they also produced this animated opening and closing, as well as the bridging sequences and some of the commercials.
MATTY'S FUNDAY FUNNIES first ran on Friday evenings at 7:30 on ABC, sponsored by Mattel. It was such a successful show with the CASPER cartoons being the most popular that ABC commissioned a new CASPER SHOW in 1962.
MATTY'F FUNDAY FUNNIES moved to Sunday afternoons in 1960 after the Friday evening primetime run.
Also check out the promo video on here for "Promo ABC-TV 1960 For Matty's Funday Funnies"(from about the Spring of 1960) which is exactly the same as this video here, from the 1959-1960 TV season on ABC which was actually the only season that had aired it on Sunday nights.
The last time this was probably shown on TV was 1962, so all of who watched it in those years are seeing the first time in 47 years, a feeling that transports you back in time with residual memories as an after effect, like finding an old toy in the attic from when you were 5 years old.
@bukster1 Billy Mumy was not the voice here. That was Cecil Roy---a woman.
Billy Mumy was MATTY MATTEL for the BEANY AND CECIL "Matty's Funnies" in 1962,
