I recommend VeryAndroid SMS Backup.

In order to send a message to someone, I have to go to their contact in the contact listing. I really wish I could tap something on the 'new message' screen to chose a contact. =/

Does Handcent do the customizable LED'S? I'm getting the EVO 4G really soon and I know nothing about Android. I have a TP2 now and it was my 1st smart phone ever. Windows Mobile is ok but Android seems like it's the way to go.
