The americans did not win in Canada and the war all together they won a few battles thats about it and the Americans had the upper hand because it was on there soil but no such luck

@Th3Truthftw The invasion of British North America (Canada) was simply opportunism. It had been stripped of all resources and defences and looked ripe for the picking. Thomas Jefferson called it a "mere matter of marching".
Canada wasn't all the US attempted to seize during this time. Florida (then Spanish Florida) also came under attack as Spain was also occupied by war in Europe. This and numerous racial fears - the Spanish harboured runaway slaves and armed blacks as militia.

@Th3Truthftw All of the reasons the US listed as grievances for war were all caused by American actions. If the US hadn't been expanding into native territory the natives wouldnt have fought back. If the US hadnt been encouraging desertion from the Royal Navy then Britain wouldnt have needed to get their sailors back and impressment wouldnt have occured. If the US hadnt been attempting to profit by trading with Britain AND France then their ships wouldnt have been hassled.

@Th3Truthftw Britain was the one nation that stood apart from the Holy Alliance. In fact Britain would co - operate with the United States to create the Monroe Doctrine, which was more or less in direct opposition to the Alliance.
-
@Th3Truthftw Still, Britain's stance after Napoleon's abdication and Waterloo, as advocated by Wellington, was to restore France to its pre-revolution size and permit it considerable military strenght with no economic sanctions. That balance was needed for Britain to play continental politics in Europe and had France been reduced the balance of power would have made Britain's future position as the main European Superpower uncertain.
-
@Th3Truthftw Sure the old order of Europe feared the French Revolution and the coming of a new order. Nothing unique about that. That's a part of human nature after all. Still doesn't change the fact that the Duke of Wellington had far more important things to deal with from 1812 to 1815 than a bunch of uppitty former colonials who were trying to take advance of Britain's preocupation with Napoleon.

@11nytram11 The political balance the alliance of Austria, Prussa, Rusia, and Great Britan wanted was to stamp out the seeds of the French Revolution. The Ideas of a self governing society scared the Monarchs of Europe because it meant an end to the nobles way of life. The congress of Vienna was held with the sole perpose of ensuring that democracy would not spread and if it did, the "Holy alliance" would crush revolts with an iron fist.

@Ninja1275 Now i do not support the Americans attacking Canada but what else is there for the weak to do when a giant is picking on the weak other then for the weak to stand up to the giant?
-
@Ninja1275 One of the main reasons for the war was the seizing of American sailors by the British navy. The British Empire had been doing things like that through out it's existence. That being taking advantage of any nation it deemed weaker than it self. It did this to the India people and the mughal empire, it once called an ally, then turning on it at it's first sign of weakness. So do not act as though the British were with out blame in the war.

RIP British soldiers. Fought and died so bravely, and for what? The war was already over. Had they won, they'd have just had to give New Orleans back.
@guerillafilmproduct Brag about New Orleans all you want, we won the war. And New Orleans was also not the last battle. Jackson was too afraid to leave his earthworks and finish the job, that would have meant fighting the British on equal terms which you yanks avoided like the devil. The same force captured the supposedly impregnable Fort Bowyer only a month later.

@guerillafilmproduct During this entire war America held all of the advantages. British North America (Canada) had a population of roughly 300,000. The US was a nation of 8 million. Even the British thought you would win! And yet somehow, you failed spectaculary.
