I’m Belgian and have no dog in this fight. Here are the straight facts:Dumont made his 1906 flight in front of hundreds of spectators, journalists and the scientific elite of the time. The well-documented event, backed by film was the world’s first flight verified by the FAI.The Wright bros built a glider that took off with the help of a catapult.Their 1903 “flight” was witnessed only by five friends, no journalists or scientists allowed. There is no footage of the event only a grainy picture

well, turns out neither the Wrights nor Santos Dumont were the first successful powered aviators - that honour goes to that scrawny little german called Weisskopf or Whitehead.

Although I am certain the 1903 flight occurred I also think that a real airplane should take off under its own power since that's what all airplanes do today.

If an airplane needs a catapult it would indicate it could be made much lighter and "solve" some of the problems with weight and enough power for take-off.

Some claim Gustav Weisskopf flew in 1901 already and there were some "witnesses".

stupid people discuss the creator of the plane was the holy Drumont and then was refined by other people until you reach the aircraft we know today. Saints Drumont was depressed to see his creation to be used in a war.
