@Onegurrrlrev I've noticed in cinema or tv, you always see the 50s portrayed as either evil and oppressive, or some golden era of America. In reality I think it was ahead of its time to the adults who remembered pre WW2 America and behind the times to those who didn't.

@Onegurrrlrev I don't know, really thinking about what generation specifically had a problem with racism? JFK's generation who fought in WW2 was the one who allowed civil rights to occur and yet have been unfairly cast in an oppressive light for 50 years. Eisenhower was from a generation even older than the WW2 generation. So I don't think it was really "ahead of its time" as much as it seems from what culture pre-60s has been portrayed as.
This was a very bold song to write during the late 40s, early 50s.

I could watch him for hours - Saw him live, about 14 years ago, and it was just he and a grand piano - two hours of delight! Thanks for posting!
