  • AMZING MORE LIE GANESH VANDANA RIHGT

  • at 0:06 - 0:11 is a typical tribhangi , 0:31, 0:35-0:45 is a typical bhangi where the dancer turn around in salutation in thribhangi , 0:59 - 1:04, 1;11 - 1:26, 1:33-1:34, the dancer in the centre is in tribhangi, 1:38, 1:44 - 1:46. I have been a student of Bharatanatyam since 1996, and of Odissi for 2 years - I am really beginning to learn Odissi - not at all an expert.

  • Can you point to the Tribhangi movement in this video? or any other video? thanks. you seem very knowledgable about classical dances, are you also a dancer>just wondering.

  • usually, the tribhangi is considered a very lasya movement - and they do lots of it - it is when the hip sticks out and the leg is at another angle and finally the neck - the tandava movement is at 2:15 in the chauka position - the bol is tey tey dhari kira thaka tey - before she does the salutations all over the world

  • does this dance (one posted here) have any lasya movements (i.e. feminine dance movements).

  • the current style of Odissi is actually a combination of the mahari and gotipua styles - the gotipua style incorporates the more acrobatic movements. To recreate Odissi they also had to look at temple sculptures as the seva had already died out by the 1980s when Odissi was recognised as a classical form.

  • Used to be Courteseans(Devdasis) performing this dance in temples for devotion and prayers, now prized for it's cultural value Odissi (from State of Orissa) is one of seven classical dances of India.

    Jai Hind........

  • really nice!
