President Barack Obama presents the Medal of Honor to Staff Sgt. Salvatore A. Giunta in a White House ceremony Nov. 16, 2010.
Giunta, of Company B, 2nd Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team, based in Vicenza, Italy, received the U.S. military's highest award for valor under fire in Afghanistan's Korengal Valley Oct. 25, 2007.
The Hiawatha, Iowa-native is the first living service member to earn the award since Vietnam.
