I need a dubstep expert to answer my question. Is this genre of music(Hatcha, Skream, Benga, etc) called grunge, grime, or dubstep? And if its dictated dubstep, what are artist like Rusko, Datsik, and Downlink correctly deemed. These are two complete different types of music.

@MultiSilentNoise i am not a dubstep expert and i have no idea what dubstep really is. but i use the two terms dubstep and filthstep to make the musical difference clear. please dont call anything 'brostep'.

@TheDominicJarrett because rusko's tunes had melody and progression, and it was something exciting and new that no one had heard before and no one has heard since. brostep lacks on melody. ok it has a few preset synth arps or whatever, but it mainly consists of one note bass played on about 10 bass sounds. rusko's basslines always had melody! twisting cleverly round the minor scale.

@12345l6789 You wouldn't no the difference between a producer and a beat maker. I'm not arguing with you but rusko was the first to start brostep. All the american brostep beat makers got influenced mainly by rusko. How can he not make brostep if every brostep beat maker was or has been influenced by him. I'm not even hating on rusko or brostep but you saying he did not make it is kinda ignorant. What's having melody and progression got to do with anything we are talking about here.

@DubstepTunez yeah that annoys me too. it's like people defining music by what kind of people listen to it. what if a so called "bro" kind of person listened to loefah and hatcha? my dad is really in to old blues music and he also likes Factory by downlink. take what you want from this

@TheDominicJarrett you clearly are not a producer. Even rusko's heaviest tracks contained melody and progression. Listen to all of his snares, they have a spring reverb dub snare layered in always. Im not saying he's chilled (even though a lot of his early stuff really is, Acton Dread etc) but he is not brostep, at all. It infuriates me that people dont have a fucking clue. Coki is just as harsh as rusko, but no one calls him brostep. rusko made jumpy energetic dubstep (until 2010) end of story.

@12345l6789 You are not being serious when you say "rusko was never brostep" are you? Why you comparing rusko with datsik they both make brostep. Different styles but both brostep. Brostep doesn't sound the same neither is it supposed to. Compare mala to rusko and tell me rusko is not brostep. I've listened to fabriclive 37 all I hear from rusko is high pitched distorted synths. You said people took it too far... rusko was that person who took it too far everyone copied.

i consider dubstep to be spacey sounds, rolling bass', with unique wah's. Brostep is Skrillex datsiq and cookie monster. If the highs out weigh the bass it = brostep. If it sounds like retarded transformers arguing its brostep lol
