This is a short clip of a drunk Japanese man explaining something to me very slowly in Japanese at a party in Tahara. It was hilarious and I still have NO IDEA what he was saying, except that at the end he asked, "Do you understand?" And I replied, "No... I don't know."

  • He lost me after "nande wa, osake wo nonde wa ikenai desu yo? (syllable)(syllable)mashita ka?" then something else before the "wakarimashita ka?" I will have to let it sit in my head for a while. In English its something like "why can't you drink sake(booze) or why can't you not go if you do drink.

  • haha... thanks. I think we were in the middle of a discussion about some counties in Kentucky being "dry" counties, as in, they don't sell alcohol. I'm not sure... it's been a while.

  • He said, "in Japan, you are not allowed to drink alcohol. Didn't you hear? It is forbidden by law. Do you understand?" Of course, it is a joke and he is saying as he is drunk out of his mind.

  • All I could tell was he was saying something about drinking sake in the negative sense...
