  • Yes, which motor won? I'm considering either the Crystalyte or Thunderbolt. I need to be careful with my investment and install an electric motor on my Electra Townie that will be durable, strong, and last for a long time!!

  • The BMC beat the Crystalyte

  • Same 51.2v 10AH Lifepo4, 40A controllers on each...

  • BMC/MAC for the damn win.

Ran my MAC at 30a/58v the other day and it clobbered a 5% grade the other day.

Crystalyte can do the job but it seems to need much more power to do it !

  • true an ordinary BMC under high current will have the nylons gears turned into peanut butter but it says on their webiste that these "thunderbolt" series motors are made with composite gears impregnated with glass for added strength. Not sure exactly how far you can push it but it seems these little geared motors move quite fast.

  • Hi

Yes thats true it is great motor below 1KW above that and the X5 murders it, running the BMC at those power levels will mash the gears and the main bearings, even on the new 600W motors, the main bearing is still a weak point, I know as I have seen 2 of them jam on the new motors.

The BMC is great if you stay well under, the X5 is the motor to choose if you want it to last.

  • Great Race.. Watching the video, i see it's the BMC that won the race... that's good motor for low power! but put 8000W on it with modified controller and the crystalyte will beat it easy!

  • Which motor won the race?

    Looks like the BMC

    What were the test variables

    Battery

    Controller

Same for each bike or different?
