Rigging a climbing harness depends on if the individual is climbing, repelling or belaying, as each requires different knots and loops. • Wow, just telling you to get to a professional. We didn't look up how to do this just to find out that we need to see a professional.

  • LOL an accessory loop??! I can't believe you own a gym! all your instruction is pretty redic.

  • Just to reinforce what has already been said about learning knots by watching videos. If you tie it wrong, you die. It's just that simple. Doesn't matter if you're 30 feet up a rock wall or in the middle of El Cap, if your knots fail because you tied them wrong, you die. You CAN'T tie them wrong so you must get proper instruction.

  • Cool. Your right I have never seen anyone do that with the accessory cord and I never thought about backing up the belay loop. I will ask an instructor about it the next time I hit the climbing wall. Thanks you for explaining it a bit further. A bit of extra safety never hurt. Happy Climbing!

  • You're right about the plane thing. I don't want to come off as a mean person. Its great you have questions about safety and are interested in the sport. The community is very friendly and open to new people. He's added a accesory cord through his tie in points as a back up to his belay loop. Something most climbers don't do(at least as far as I've seen over the years). Wish you the best of luck and be safe.

  • I'm sorry I didn't think making a knot on a video was such an issue. I simply asked for a close up of the knot. There is no way you can compare making a knot to flying a plane that is ridiculous. I didn't ask how to belay I asked about the use of accessory cord which they used in the video. I have only been belayed with the belay device attached to the biner attached to the belay loop. So I was curious to how they have the accessory cord rigged for extra safety.

  • Because he is being vague on purpose, He, I and the rest of the climbing community wants people to be instructed in person by someone who is qualified to do so. Maybve thats why he said three times to get the proper instruction at a gym. I don't want to climb with someone who learned how to belay on youtube just as much as I'm not getting on a plane with a "pilot" who watched a youtube video once on how to land.

  • Why don't you show us more detail regarding how to make the figure eight knot. In my opinion your instructions are incomplete. In addition how about a close up of how you backed up the belayer with the piece of accessory cord. Again I feel this video is incomplete. I am a complete new bee and am trying to learn but this video was a wast of my time.
