A trip along the 3-mile A34 Alderley Edge bypass. First proposed in the 1920s, construction finally started in 2008, and it opened to traffic on 19 November 2010, allowing vehicles to avoid the congested village centre. It's single carriageway throughout and subject to the National Speed Limit (60 for cars) apart from a very short section at the northern end. In August 2011, the bypass has was offically named "Melrose Way", after Margaret Melrose, who was actively involved in campaigning for its construction over the last 50 years.
