  • But a question example if you get some filter media of your neightbour and his fishes are sick and you sqeeuze his sponge in your filter you wont get the sick ?

  • @spongeex get from a healthy and alive tank

  • @asiandude666 ok but i want a good cycle and a fast cycle no medicals like aquasafe or life bacteria all they are expensive etc Just borrow some filter media and than 1 week cycling ?

  • @spongeex yes..you just use mature media from a healthy tank and use that in the new filter. Run for a few hour then add a few fish each week.

I usually add plants with it to help with nitrate too.

  • What fish do you use when you do this??:)

  • @pearsonshawn you can addy hardy fish such as guppy, danioi, betta, cory.

  • @pearsonshawn yes! just make sure to run the filter for 1 hour and add fish. I usually add fish right away anway.

  • Will it still work if you have another tank that is heated, and you put that filter sponge in a freshwater tank???

  • @PluralP yes should be fine. I usually add them right away and do waterchange and feed little.

Shrimp needs a bit more of a mature tank that has been running for a while.

  • I put my fish in 5 days after putting the water in. Only my freshwater shrimp didn't survive the others (8 pristella's, 8 pigmi corrydoras and one electric blue ramirezi) did fine. In America everyone is somehow crazy about cycling it though :P. the thing I did was, feed them small amounts (still do that) and I have a lot of real plants, not those ugly fake ones :). My friend has also had multiple aquariums and has always put the fish in after a week. the pet store also said this was fine :P.
