This was hard. Sakuya A is far inferior to Sakuya B. She has a really hard time earning cherry points for borders- first off, her bombs are terrible. They're over in a flash and have very poor clearance. They're quite damaging but bombs do no damage against spellcards in Extra stages so this will only be noticed during non-cards. Also, the strategy of attacking unfocused at the start of the spellcard while the boss is briefly invincible is almost pointless- the cherry bonus gained from this is spread out over her shot, and since most of her shot isn't hitting, it's not worth using. Her homing attack is tricky too- while Reimu A's homing amulet will hit anything on the screen, Sakuya needs to be within a 45 degree angle. Also, Reimu gets a straightforward shot alongside her homing amulets which lets you target enemies of your choice while the homing takes care of the rest- Sakuya does not; her whole shot is spent on the homing attack.

In short, if it's your first time trying to clear Extra, do not go for Sakuya A. Sakuya B is far better, or if you can't figure out her tricky shot, Reimu A.

A few general hints for clearing using Sakuya A:

-Break ALL of your borders, no matter what. Sakuya A has a really hard time gathering cherry points and needs all the help she can get. Even if there's only one bullet on the screen, don't let your border end naturally.

-KEEP DODGING DURING BOMBS. The clearance is very poor, and the screen will be full again by the time the bomb expires. Plus you move a lot slower during the bomb. It's not uncommon to be put in MORE danger while using it due to this. Don't be too stingy to use two bombs in a row if you need to.

-Don't be a hero. Sakuya A just doesn't have the firepower or survivability to take risks on attacks, even if there's a potential of saving a lot of time. If in any doubt- bomb.

-During the boss, autocollect at the end of every spellcard (except Unilateral Contract, which I will point out). Not doing so means you miss out on two, maybe even three extra lives through point items- that's 12 bombs.

-Stay fairly low down the screen to maximise the area her homing attack can reach. Don't worry too much about this, since you'll probably be that low anyway, but keep it in mind that the lower you are, the less in-range you have to be to land a hit. One major upside to her attack is that it does the same damage regardless of distance.

Anything else is in the annotations. Good luck!

  • Thanks now I can pass the stage (not including Ran)

  • Is it your first time trying to clear? If so, I REALLY suggest you use Sakuya B instead. Her shot takes a little practice to learn how to use it properly but once you do she is far easier overall. Especially on Ran- the attacks are so dense that Sakuya B's bombs give you LOADS of borders. The more borders you get the better, and for your first clear they're vital.

  • I have more trouble on chen's 2nd card than the first... it's easier to dodge the first from left to right, for me... just make sure that you can read ahead before moving, or you'll run into a stray bullet...
