Dis a collab. Oldnrone (Guy Enqvist) wrote down fine verses bout an american blacksmith during the american civil war and The Caveman made a melody to it. Hope yous like it.

Happy New Year everybody!

The Ballad Of Cutler Johnson

My name is Cutler Johnson
There's no silver to my steel
But it ain't about the glamour
It's all about the feel
I am just a blacksmith forging bayonets for my trade
Count the blood on my conscience
On every soldiers' blade

My father was a farmer
The master of my fate,
He died a two time loser
To foraging grey backs and the state
Little did he leave behind but dark'n bitter foul
He died by his own trembling hands
With a hole deep down his soul

So don't tell me about your family
I don't care about your life
I can't be the one to think about
Your children and your wife
When you meet your maker, to me it's just the same
I guess you had it coming
I'm not the one to blame

I have never seen the battlefield
They say I'm too old to go
But I've seen young men get carried home
In blood and broken bones
Brother against brother, father against son
Don't you think about them
They're forever dead and gone

The Cedar Run in '62
By the foot of Slaughter's hill
I carried a lonely widow
To the town of Gordonsville
For the sake of consolation I laid her on my floor
But the surviving raging soldier
Turned out behind my door

Calomel and hardtack
Would not save my sorry life
I salute that courageous soldier
For defending his young wife
Not by a rusty Springfield or a bullet's dirty deal
I lost my final battle
To a piece of shiny Cutler's steel

p.s. if i hurts da copyright with those pictures i found on the internet, well, then... sorry

  • I gotta admit Luke, Guy kind of kicked your ass on singing on this one. his version really goes in alot deeper. If it's condolence I think you won on colors by a long shot. yah, I know you weren't in competition. just thought I'd mark the board. maybe you guys compete a little we'll get more good songs !!

  • This is such an incredble song! Probably my favorite in the world at the moment. I really like the way you sing it! Great video work to go along with this masterpiece!

  • Great song, Luke & Guy! I've heard Guys and Marks version, and now I'm checking out yours. You all got a great, own version. Nice.

  • I'm a avid Civil War researcher and these pictures are as fantastic as the song is. Really, great, great video and song!!!!

  • Well I was here earlier today and left a comment but it wouldn't stick for some reason. This is outstanding and so very, very moving. The photo images laid down in here are so carefully place and it really helps tell the story. Luke, your voice does such justice to the overall 'feel' of this wonderfully written song by Guy. I sincerely hope the two of you will consider many more collabs of this nature! What an excellent pairing here. Thank you Guy, for sharing it with me!
