you cut the tips of the bigger leaves just because the clone must use all of his strenght to do the roots... Leaves take strenght to be maintained by the plant and to continue to "capt" light.. so when you cut the tips of the big leaves(just leave 3-4leaves intact), more strenght will be used by the small leaves (2-3last leaves on top) and the roots, then less strenght will be used by the bigger leaves, who will still continue to capt a little bit of light
