Maintaining Your Composition Roof
Roof cleaning: most composition roofs will either start to grow moss or algae within a couple years of the roof being installed on your home. The most common cause for roof cleaning is moss growing on the edges or black streaking or mold which is dark in color. In the past this has been resolved by pressure washing the material which will take off the moss or mold along with some roofing material. Even today this is still an accepted practice when there are many alternatives out there which will not damage the roof or integrity of the material. Rain falling from the sky removes the sand like granules that are on the surface. Using a low pressure washing method is still more pressure than rain. Therefor, even low pressure washing machines will damage the roofing material and shorten the life of your roof.
If your roof has more of a mold problem you can mix up a light solution which contains a bit of house hold bleach, soap for cling and apply a couple times a year to your roof. This solution does break down into basically salt so use caution when applying. There maybe also products available online that are more user friendly for your non pressure roof cleaning needs.
