@thrashedrider84 I believe the brilliance of the book Where the Wild Things Are is the openness for kids to make it their own. And as a kid, Spike Jonze did and 30 plus yrs later. Sentak was touched that his book meant alot to Spike.
by saying that this film enhances and enriches his book is the same things as you just said.......thats not making it more than what it is, that is admitting that the film makes the book more than what it is so your point is kind of mute. Either way the movie is a work of genius.
u might have a miniscule point there mr. hater..... but bottom line is 10 pages or 100 pages or 1000 pages.... i read and saw alot of kids stuff at that age and very few of them would still caych my attention and make me want to go see the movie version in my 20's
To paraphrase Sendak, this move takes nothing from my book, but enhances and enriches my book. That's giving a 10 page long picture book alot of credit for profoundness of meaning. Was there really that much more to this book as a work of literature or did it just strike all the right chords with kids making it enough of a pop culture icon to gross mega bucks as a movie? And when the authour is left comment, he is now put in the position of needing to make more of the book then was ever there?
