  • The 2001 and 2002 had a recall due to faulty design. 2003 was updated but still prone to failures.

  • Early in the process, the coolant catch tank overflows with a brown fluid (green coolant and red tranny fluid). This happens because the tranny fluid is kept at a higher pressure than the coolant. Eventually though, coolant will make it's way into the tranny and destroy it.

  • Many MDX, Pilot, Ridgeline, and Odyssey transmissions failed due to faulty radiators too. The tranny fluid cooler is located inside the radiator (unless a towing package was installed). If a crack develops internally, or via the concentric O-rings on the connectors for the tranny lines, the trany fluid mixes with the coolant.

  • so if they recalled will my 02' i just bought have the repair , or not what would you think ? would the recall give me right to return and demand upgrade on trans ?

  • All trannys on the 03 mdx are peices of shit, cost me 4000 to replace.
