2002 Vaganova 7th Year Taller Alina Somova Very Tall Elena Vostrotina Mariinsky

From her 4th year to her 7 th year, Alina Somova was no longer the shortest girl in class and was possibly the 2nd tallest girl in class. The tallest girl is Elena Vostrotina, who is in the center of the second group. Vostrotina had a brilliant future at Mariinsky, but like a few others, such as Olga Yesina and Maria Yakovleva, both going to Vienna, Elena left the Mariinsky. Elena went to Dresden, which has 2 ex-Mariinsky ballerinas as principals, Natalia Sologub and Olga Melnikova. For those who enjoy Alina's extension, you will enjoy Vostrotina's extension. For those who hate big extension, you can complain about two ballerinas.

Extention (hip flexion devant and seconde/extension derriere and arabesque) is part of ballet. A dancer uses what s/he has. If its 120 degree - go for it sister! But if it's 200 degrees - wow...but, the whole issue of balance changes and is worked on so its usable to support artistry first, technique second. Thanks to Vostrotina and Somova for increasing the artistry of our art form with more and more challenging technique. (and a bow to Mdm. V. for giving us the method in the first place!)

to all the haters for Alina, why should she hold herself back just because you dont think its right?! Yes ballet is an art form, but she handles both the 'tricks' and the beauty very well, think about how amazing she will be once she is older and can tap into her emotions even more!

I prefer elena...... I don't understand why Alina is front center of the first group and elena is in the second.... alina doesn't have the technical foundation, expression or precision that elena has. Elena to me is absolutely stunning.

Vostrotina might just become one of my favourite dancers. 1. Her amazing feet. 2. Her amazing balances in the releve penchee arabesques. 3. overall technical ability. Only thing i'm not a fan of are her arms.
