@SOCDutch ~ by implying you "don't have a social life", i mean you are obviously easily swayed by political pseudo facts over real facts, that implication is illuminated by the mountains of evidence you climb over to come to a conclusion the civil war wasn't primarily about slavery.
these pseudo facts you repeat were literally made up by millions of post-civil war racists who formed the kkk and jim crow.
calling names is childish, i get frustrated by the depth of american ignorance.

@tomitstube First off, simply calling someone names is a very childish way of trying to get your point across. Second, how does correcting someone when they're wrong about history imply that I lack a social life? Also, I'm not saying that slavery was not part of the civil war. It was a factor, but it was just one of the things the south wanted to keep when they attempted to secede. The war was about the Confederacy wanting to be independent, and the Union wanting the US to remain as a whole.
-
@SOCDutch ~ only complete idiots or southern revisionists believe the civil war was not primarily about slavery, the evidence is over whelming. the confederate constitution was identical to the one they seceded from, albeit legal slavery. the quotes alone by prominent southerners and politicians is evidence enough.
and is it just coincidence that the only goddamn thing to change after the civil war was the freedom of black people from slavery?
get a life.

@tomitstube You do realize that slavery wasn't the main reason for the civil war right?

if the civil war defined america, it defined us as a bunch of idiots. european countries ended slavery before we did without civil wars. but america was so racist and still is, that 600,000 people had to die to figure this out. and guess who's hanging on to their theocratic leanings the longest?
and what spawned from this colossal idiotic war? 100 years of the ku klux klan and jim crow.
the music is too good for what went on in this country for 300 years.

Just as beautiful as when I first heard in the first presentation of Burn's work on PBS.
"Any understanding of this nation has to be based, and I mean really based, on an understanding of the Civil War. I believe that firmly. It defined us. The Revolution did what it did. Our involvement in European wars, beginning with the First World War, did what it did. But the Civil War defined us as what we are and it opened us to being what we became, good and bad things." - Shelby Foote

@RKingFaraday Shelby Foote was a King among men. What a hero. I was very sad on his death.
