As part of her campaign to stop dams in the amazon, Rebecca Sommer organised a side event about the Belo Monte dam, at the World Peoples Conference on Climate Change and Mother Earth Rights, along with EARTHPEOPLES and a large number of co-sponsors, NGOs and indigenous organisations that are working with communities that are impacted by the construction of large hydroelectric dams. The Belo Monte dam would be the 3rd largest dam in the world, and as large as the Panama Canal.
