Whoops. I said I recorded WMAQ. I menant WBBM. :/
Anyway..
WBBM- fail
Crawling message on the screen- check
Alert tones- check
"this is a test" visual message- check
now the failures: it sounded like someone turned on a radio with horrible reception. (probably did) It sounded grainy, there was a message saying "this is a test of the-" then it cut off, and went to static. I could here another alarm tone playing in the background plus commercials. I might upload videos.

1/2 Fail: my dvr didn't record abc7. I recorded CNN, WFLD (fox chicago), and WMAQ.
My results:
CNN- FAIL
A CNN anchor DID say there was going to be an Emergency Alert System test within the next few minutes, yet I waited 10 minutes and there wasn't anything yet. I skipped forward, and still nothing.
Fox- Success
The EAS played with tones and everything, but no crawling message on top of the screen, yet the FCC and FEMA said there may not be one.

well, I can't record a lot of the stations from other states over the net, because the streams are protected.
I'm still going to record WLS-AM (since they're Illinoi's PEP station) as well as WBBM-TV and WGN-TV. I'm also going to try to get WPWR-TV, as well as the relay by my cable provider, Wide Open West.
I'll let you record WLS-TV, since that's what you were intending to do.

Never mind; found out it will be Washington, DC.

ok, thanks for that. I won't waste my time with NOAA Weather Radio then. That's probably because Wednesday is their weekly test day anyway.
Interesting that their using the EAN code, although that's what the EAS and EBS were originally intended for anyway.
Do you know, where this is going to be originated from?
-
yeah, I was going to do ABC 7 (WLS) AND WGN-9.

scariest sound ever

@weatherexpert2 Hey, just found out that NOAA isn't broadcasting the eas test on their radios. Also, an EAN (Emergency Alert Notfication) code will be used for the test.
-
@weatherexpert2 . I would've liked (if I could) have something automatically record a NOAA weather station to see if they relay the EAS to that, but I don't even know if the EAS is going to relay over the weather radio.
And, I also live in the Chicago area, (in aurora), so I'm going to record the WLS-ABC7 station and maybe WMAQ NBC.
-
Yeah, the FCC has been running an ad on TV and radio.
I'm going to try to record as many radio stations as I can using the internet, and I'm also going to try to get at least 2 of the local TV stations here in Chicago. We'll see, how it goes.
Also, do you know if the NWS offices are going to relay it on NOAA Weather Radio?
this shit freaks me out in the middle of the night -.-

Ok, its good that they have this to warn people of storms, tonados, and other natural disasters, but do they have to make it so damn scary!? I'm 18 years old and when I hear this sound, even if its a test, my blood chills untill its over.
