It's been a long time since I've posted anything on Youtube. I was going through old vids from rehearsals and I came across this excerpt. This is a clip from a rehearsal with Javier Colon. Javier is an extremely talented multi-instrumentalist and vocalist who was signed to Capitol records at the time. He has since moved on and continues to release incredible music on his own. I insist you check out his music on myspace, facebook and iTunes. He is as nice a guy as he is talented. Javier is a truly special artist who I will always admire and respect. I always look forward to our opportunities to work together.

You will notice that this is not a drum solo... in fact, it's all pocket playing... reason being, I'm a pocket player. Soloing is nice when it's called for, but at the end of the day, I am driven by the desire to play songs... verses... chorus... melodies and hooks are what inspire me, so even though I'm not super-imposing odd meter polyrhythms, I thought this was a fun little example of my playing and frankly, this is what is most often called for when the phone rings. I hope you enjoy it, and definitely track down Javier Colon and his music. He is truly a gifted musician.

BTW, the other musicians heard but not seen in this video include, Javier Colon (obviously), Tom Witt-bass, Andrew Dorsett-keys, and Tariqh Akoni-guitar. They are all exceptional players that I have been fortunate to work with.

  • i hope God creates more people like you, may you have a very long life and tons of blessings, thank you very much sir :)

  • Great drummer, great feeling; great playing. Beside the fact that he's an amazing drummer, he seems to be an amazing person as well, considering he's trying to respond every question here with all of his sincerity.

So once again, thank you for being a kind and amazing person and keep up these awesome grooves.

Finally, please post more videos so we can get to watch more of you =) Cheers from İstanbul.
