The HI-Space Environment, short for Human Information Workspace, is a multi-user interface that recognizes multiple object on the surface of the space as well as multiple hands and pointers within the workspace. It uses a coated glass surface, a projector underneath the table, and an infrared camera above the table to detect shapes and hands. It does not require touch and supports multiple hands making different poses and moving around in the space. The software architecture allows for rapid application development, as well as easy integration with existing mouse and keyboard based applications.
